Pilgrims in Najaf Mourn Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Ali (AS)

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Mourning rituals were held at the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq, on the eve of the first Imam’s (AS) martyrdom anniversary.

A large number of pilgrims attended the mourning ceremonies and also recitation of Al-Iftitah Supplication, according to the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine.  

A flag on which “Fuzt Wa Rabb al-Kaaba” is written has been raised on the dome of the holy mausoleum and its walls are covered in black.

Fuzt wa Rabb al-Kaaba, a phrase said by Imam Ali (AS) when he was struck in the head, means: “I swear to the Lord of the Kaaba that I have prospered.”

Shia Muslims and others in different parts of the world hold mourning ceremonies every year on the 21^st day of the holy month of Ramadan, which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali (AS).
